This great video is the best way to show how big the universe is

We get it. The Universe is huge and hard to understand, while Earth is very small. There are black holes billions of times more massive than our Sun, which is also huge in its own right, but it’s just one of the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy alone.

But the more you hear “Space is big and you aren’t,” the more it sounds like words. Because how can you understand how big the Universe is when everything is measured in light-years, which are, as you may know, 5,878,000,000,000 miles long?

Don’t worry, YouTube user morn1415 is here to help with this amazing video that shows the planets and moons of our Solar System and beyond to scale, as well as all the different stars you’ve probably never heard of, let alone knew how big they are. (Our favourite one is called Betelgeuse).

That’s all cool and fascinating, but things get really interesting when the video takes a giant step back, and starts to show you the scale of our Milky Way galaxy in light-days and light-years, and then the scale of all the other galaxies, and then out into the cosmic web of galaxies, which is about 5.7 billion light-years across, nbd.

Seriously, if you can watch this and not have a near-existential crisis, you’re stronger than us.
